Carlisle MP Launches New LPG Autogas Forecourt
Cleaner, cheaper fuel now available at another UK forecourt.
Carlisle MP, John Stevenson joined staff from Autogas Limited recently as they celebrated the availability of automotive LPG at Shell Carlisle North within Todhills Services on the M6 in Cumbria.
Representatives from Autogas Limited, the UK’s leading automotive Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supplier, met with the local MP to explain the cost and environmental benefits of switching to LPG and gain his support for what is the third most popular road fuel in the UK.
John Stevenson MP for Carlisle commented: “I was delighted to open the latest Autogas LPG refuelling station at Shell Carlisle North Services. Not only is LPG better for the environment than petrol or diesel, but it is also less expensive per litre, giving motorists a more cost efficient choice of fuel.”
Autogas Limited has pledged to open more LPG refuelling sites across the UK and had previously identified Carlisle as a key area for increasing nationwide availability. Other new sites currently under development include one within the new motorway service areaon the M25 at Cobham.
Commenting on the launch Autogas general manager, Jem Aldridge, says “The ever increasing cost of motoring is at the forefront of people’s minds and LPG provides a real and proven alternative to other traditional fuels.
“Every penny counts and Autogas LPG offers a significant saving without the compromises and anxiety associated with other ‘alternative’ fuel types. In fact, it can help motorists cut fuel costs by up to 40 per cent.
“At a time of record breaking petrol and diesel prices, LPG cannot be ignored as an alternative and a solution to rural fuel poverty. It currently retails at an average price of 78.7 pence per litre, compared to 142.4 ppl for petrol and 147.8 ppl for diesel*. A petrol-engine vehicle running on LPG also produces lower CO2, NOx and particulate matter emissions”
Liquefied Petroleum Gas, or LPG, has an established and easily accessible refuelling network and is available from 1,400 public refuelling points up and down the country with the majority of Autogas Limited LPG refuelling sites being located on Shell forecourts on motorways and major trunk roads, allowing drivers to benefit from all the normal forecourt facilities including fuel card payments.
Jem Aldridge adds: “What drivers really like that running on LPG is the same as driving a petrol car with no compromise on vehicle range or performance. With over 10% of UK forecourts now retailing autogas drivers don’t have to go out of their way to refuel. In fact to make life easier we provide a free to download satnav site locator on our website.’’
